Gelatin is renowned for its therapeutic properties, particularly gut healing and joint health. We stock three premier products from Great Lakes:

  • Beef gelatin, which dissolves in hot, and sets solid
  • Pork gelatin for those who cannot use beef
  • Beef Collagen Hydrolysate, which dissolves in cold and is ideal for smoothies and protein shakes
The body's natural ability to repair supporting connective tissue (Bone, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, skin, hair and nails) diminishes in one's mid-twenties.  Collagen contains amino acids such as glycine, lysine and proline, which are important amino acids used by the body to build connective tissue structures to support the functions of the cells. Beef Collagen Hydrolysate is a bovine collagen that has been hydrolysed so that it can be mixed in with cold or warm liquids. Unlike regular gelatin, this hydrolysate form mixes easily in cold water, making it ideal for protein shakes, and it mixes quickly in a blender or shaker.

The raw material used for production of gelatin is the naturally occurring protein collagen which is commercially sourced from the meat industry from healthy animals designated for human consumption. Each stage of the manufacturing process is rigorously controlled in modern laboratories to ensure purity and quality. The process of converting collagen into gelatine involves several cleansing and purification steps. The end result is an off white dry powder of the utmost purity.

How are the cattle raised?

The cattle are grass fed and slaughtered in Argentina and Brazil which is controlled by their respective Departments of Agriculture. These countries have rigorous tests and inspections. Beef hides are the only product used to manufacture the beef gelatin.

What does it mean to be USDA approved?

The USDA certifies that rindepest, foot-and-mouth disease, classical swine fever, swine vascular disease, African swine fever, and contagious bovine pleuropneumonia are not present in the products. All pigs have received ante- and post-mortem inspections by official veterinarians and are found fit for human consumption.
